Gurudwara Dam Dama Sahib
|
Gurudwara Damdama Sahib is located near Humayun’s Tomb on the outer ring road, New Delhi.
This gurudwara is associated with the Tenth Guru Sahib, Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji. It commemorates His meeting in 1707 with Prince Muazzam, later Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar. He had been requested by the Prince for help in his battle for succession for the throne with his brother, after the death of Emperor Aurangzeb. Guru Sahib met the Prince at this place and together, they drew up their strategy. They enjoyed elephant and bull fights organized for their entertainment.
Guru Sahib promised to help the Prince if he would punish all those responsible for the treacherous killing of His sons and destroying His city, Anandpur Sahib. Later, Guru Sahib helped the Prince to defeat his brother and claim the throne.
