Gurudwara Mata Sundri Ji
|
Gurdwara Mata Sundri Ji is located near the Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital on Mata Sundri Lane, New Delhi.
When Guru Gobind Singh Ji went to the Deccan, Mata Sundri Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji stayed back at Delhi. When the holy mothers parted from the Guru, Mata Sundri sought his permission to adopt a boy who resembled her elder son, Ajit Singh. While giving permission, the Guru said that resemblance alone could not make the same character of his son.
Later, this boy was disowned when he planned to become the eleventh Guru. Before leaving for the Deccan, Guru Sahib gave Mata Sahib Kaur five weapons: a sword, a khanda (a double edged sword), a khanjar (a long dagger) and two katars ( a small dagger). She was also made the eternal mother of the Sikhs and permitted to use the Guru’s seal on hukumnamas (divine orders).
Both the mothers breathed their last here and their samadhis (memorials) are located inside Gurdwara Bala Sahib.
