Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib

Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib is located on Pandit Pant Marg, near Parliament House, New Delhi.
This gurdwara is associated with the Ninth Guru, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. When the Guru Sahib was martyred at the site of Gurdwara Sis Ganj, his headless body was picked up by Bhai Lakhi Shah and his son. Bhai Lakhi Shah brought the Guru’s body to his home and after making a pyre inside, he set the entire house on fire.
This served the purpose of cremating the Guru’s body without attracting anybody’s attention. He collected the ashes in a small urn and buried it in the ground. This gurdwara is located at the site where the Guru Sahib was cremated.

The construction of the present building was started in 1960 and completed in 1967-68. It is a beautiful two-storeyed building. Extensive karsewa under the supervision of Baba Harbans Singh Ji has been carried out and besides the main building, other buildings have been constructed as well. A sarai is under construction.
