Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib
|
Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib is situated in Fatehgarh Sahib on Sirhind-Morinda Road. The town of Morinda is 15 kms from this place, whereas town of Sirhind is 2 kms.
Mata Gujri and her grandsons, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh got separated from Guru Gobind Singh Ji while crossing the flooded Sirsa river at Anandpur Sahib. They were escorted by their old servant Gangu. Gangu handed over Mataji and two princes aged 9 and 7 years respectively, to Wazir Khan, the Viceroy of Sirhind.
They were put in Cold Tower. Early next morning, both the younger princes were presented before the Viceroy, Wazir Khan. On reaching the court room, both of them raised the Slogan "Khalsa belongs to God, Victory to God'. Wazir Khan offered them to join Islam or face the treatment as given to "Kafirs". To this the young Sahibzadas giving befitting reply said that they did not care for wordly joys. Wazir Khan ordered the two Sahibzadas to be entombed alive in a brickwall. On 11 December, they, under the orders of Wazir Khan Sahibzadas began to be paved with bricks standing on the ground. However, as the masonry reached above chest height, it crumbled. The next day, 12 december 1705, the Sahibzadas were once again offered the choice of conversion or death. The Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, marks the exact site of martyrdom. In the basement is the spot now called `Bhora Sahib', the two walls among which Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh were enclosed and the platform on which they stood have been left here. Jor Mela on 26,27,28 December, Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Shahidi Diwas of Baba Zorawar and Fateh Singh are organised here.
