Gurudwara Sri Keshgarh Sahib

Takhat Sri Keshgarh Sahib, is situated in the heart of the city of Anandpur. It lies along the Sirhind-Ropar-Nangal rail and road link. It is 2 hours drive from Chandigarh.
The town of Anandpur was founded by ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who purchased this land from Raja of Kehlur in 1655. It was named as "Chak Nanaki" after the name of Guruji's mother.
When Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru returned here from Paonta Sahib, after staying there from 1685 to 1688 he renamed it as Anandpur. He got constructed five forts in Anandpur Sahib, namely Anandgarh Lohgarh, Keshgarh, Fatehgarh and Holagarh. Takhat. Sri Keshgarh Sahib , situated on top of a hill, commands a panoramic view. It is here that the Guru Gobind Singh gave birth to the Khalsa Panth by bapitising five sikhs on Basakhi in 1699. Guru Gobind Singh wanted to create a casteless society which should follow one path of humanity and brotherhood. He created the institution of the Khalsa and by the addition of Singh infused, the spirit of courage bravery and fearlessness amongst them and equated them with himself by saying “Khalsa mero roop hai Khas” and “Guru is Khalsa and Khalsa is Guru”. At this place, in the middle of the hall Guruji's weapons are preserved as sacred relics. Here Baisakhi the occasion of birth of Khalsa and Holla Mohalla are being celebrated every year with great enthusiausm.
